Kibera Diaries
Project Overview
Kibera Diaries is a community-based social enterprise that offers authentic, responsible walking tours and cultural experiences within the Kibera slum in Nairobi, Kenya. Founded and operated by local residents, the platform provides a variety of guided excursions, including general walking tours, art and culture experiences, photography sessions, and visits to community-led social projects focused on education and health. Their mission is to challenge negative stereotypes and provide a deeper understanding of the area’s complexity while ensuring that tourism acts as a force for good; as such, a portion of all proceeds is reinvested into local projects and the guides themselves are all community members. Through these immersive interactions, Kibera Diaries provides visitors with a respectful and safe way to engage with the vibrant daily life, music, and entrepreneurial spirit of Africa’s largest urban informal settlement.
